In this series of collage work, I explore the foundations of color and texture in an abstract format. I use this sculptural feeling of “building” a puzzle and the challenge of juxtaposing color and texture to translate my fascination with the geographic nature of islands and reefs. The symbolism of islands and reefs, such as romance, beauty, escape, isolation, strength and mystery serve as an endless source of inspiration for me.
The six color lithographs are an expansion of the collage series. Using the techniques of lithography I was able to juxtapose transparent and opaque as well as the ordered and haphazard with this hand pulled series.
These works are titled after islands or reefs located worldwide.
